Washington, DC ~ A Summary

Well, we have done Washington, DC! After two weeks here, we are on our way. Some final thoughts……

  1. Plan to walk A LOT! One most days we walked at least five miles.
  2. Lunch – best places to find lunch is north of the Mall. All of the museums have their own facilities, but the food isn’t all that good (except the one at the Castle, in our opinion). It wasn’t feasible for us to bring lunch into the city; we spent about $20-$25 each day for lunch, and it being just so-so most days.
  3. The Metro. If you’re staying at Cherry Hill Campground, do not take the bus to the Metro Station. Why? It takes a TON longer and you have to wait up to half an hour to get the bus back to the campground. We did it once, and once was enough. Better (and even less expensive) it to simply drive and park at the Greenbelt Metro terminal and take the Metro from there. It’s three miles (5 minutes) away and we always found parking. A great FREE app for your phone for Metro is DC Metro Transit – Free.
  4. Plan ahead – contact your Congressperson for a tour of the Capitol – no lines, small groups, and access to the Senate and House.
  5. Plan ahead – get reserved tickets ($1.50 per person) to the National Archives – no lines, no waiting.
  6. Pass on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
Easy and affordable - no matter where you are!
