National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C.

The National Museum of Natural History has numerous exhibitions ~ humans, mammals, aquatic life, minerals, gems, butterflies ~ so let the photos begin…………

Easter Island Statue

A grizzly bear ~  who ya think would win the fight for a piece of meat?

A seal's perspective ~

Some incredible animal photography was displayed in the special exhibition room~

And you are one on 7, 064, 130, 569 people......

A mummy

Interesting fact ~ skulls from various cultures are different
(L -> R: Native American, European, African)

This was Suzanne's favorite area - gems!
The Hope Diamond.....

A lovely trio of sapphires and diamonds

A close-up of the necklace. Now seriously, wouldn't that look great on Suzanne?

Or perhaps this diamond neckalce........

Or this one, perhaps!

There were lots of pretty rocks that weren't jewelry too ~

And some gold

These are from a mine in Bisbee, Arizona - we were there a few years ago.

There was a cool solar system display

Oh, and a butterfly garden.  Normally the butterflies require a $6 admission per adult, but unbeknownst to use, Tuesday are free and we were there on a Tuesday. :-)

The coolest thing we took away from this museum ~ all humans are 99.9% genetically similar.  Something to think about......

Perspective on how big this dinosaur was:

And another big guy

So all in all there were some interesting things, especially the building itself which was quite impressive. As with the American History Museum, however, there were a TON of people in the museum and that got a bit old for us.
Easy and affordable - no matter where you are!
