National Museum of American History, Washington, D.C.

The National Museum of American History has a plethora of items from American History ~ political, cultural, technological, and so on. We spent a few hours meandering the halls (and trying to stay as far away from the school field trips as possible). Here are a few of the cool things we saw………

Mrs. Obama's Inaugural Gown from 2009
(beautiful in person, photos do not and did not do it justice)

Martha Washignton's White House china

1760 "lobsterman" uniform from the American Revolution!

1861 American flag with 34 stars

1863 Confederate States of America's First National Flag

A piece of the Berlin Wall

The original Kermit the Frog (It's not easy being green...........)

Archie Bunker's Chair from All in the Family........

Mohammed Ali's heavy-weight champion boxing gloves

Dorothy's ruby red shoes........

The lunch counter from the 1960 Greensboro student sit-in

A Conestoga wagon from the mid-1800's (now how we arrived in Oregon, for sure!)

Harry Potter's Gryffindor's robe

Julia Child's kitchen

Unfortunately about half of the museum was closed for renovations and a lot of the displays were not out for show. Suzanne (who has been here before) remembers much more pop culture pieces. Maybe we'll have to come back when renovations are complete in 2016.
Easy and affordable - no matter where you are!
