Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary, Sarastoa, Florida

Day 2 of our weekend with Jana & Rick saw us visiting the nearby Big Cat Habitat & Gulf CoastSanctuary.  Just a few miles form Sun-n-Fun RV Resort (you can hear the lions roaring in the morning), we had free passes (thanks to the Florida Touism Bureau who, as we shared before, offer free passes to front-line hospitality staff, like us). Since each of us can get two free passes, the four of us went for free – always a good thing!

The  Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary is a non-profit home for big cats (lions, tigers, etc…), bears and other animals in need. This is where these animals live the rest of their lives after being performers, living in someone’s private home, from the circus, etc….  It is not a zoo, nor a circus itself, however the one hour show we saw was somewhat circus-like with a monkey who did tricks (training) and four big cats as the second act.

The premise of Big CatHabitat is good, no doubt.  It really wasn’t our thing, but it was nearby, the four of us all had some level of interest, and free (always good!)  Normal adult admission is $15 per person, free parking, and they are open Wednesday – Sunday, 12:30-4pm.

Jose’s Real Cuban Food & Friends, Sarastoa, Florida

Wow! We can’t believe it’s been nearly a month since our last post ~ the good side of the equation is it’s because we have been so busy working and restringing/repairing RV blinds, that we haven’t had a chance to do anything worth mentioning.

That all changed this last week – friends of ours, Jana & Rick, from Mesa Regal RV Park, where we workamped last winter, came and visiting and we promised ourselves two days of no work and two days of fun. Success!:-)

The first days was spent enjoying a lot of chatting and catching-up, and on Jana & Rick’s recommendation, we went to Jose’s Real Cuban Food, which they found by being avid followers of the television show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Well, score! The place is a dive, no doubt, but very nice staff – especially Jose – and great Cuban food. We all ordered different items, ranging from pork to chicken to beef ~ we tasted one another’s food and the servings were large – only Brad finished his meal! :-)

Thanks to Jana & Rick, we’re now looking forward to our next visit to a Diner, Drive-In and Dive!
