Norway Day 8 ~ Driving to Geirangerfjord!

One week down - we have done lots of driving already trying to find decent weather. Even though we’ve been driving a lot – Norway is an amazingly beautiful country. At every turn, there is another breathtaking view – difficult to capture in a pictures.

The rain is still expected to break tomorrow, so we decided to head to the hamlet/town of Geiranger, which sits at the end of Geirnagerfjord, which is supposed to be one of the more beautiful fjords in Norway.

Before we left Alesund, we went to a bakery for a sweet and some coffee. Once again, Brad had the pleasure of dumping the toilet cassette! (Think this may be one of the last times Suzanne captured the moment....but look at the fun he is having!😜)

As we mentioned before, there are waterfalls all over the country.

We drove onto another ferry….(the ferry pictures may be ending soon too, as the novelty was wearing off)......

…and drove down a very twisty road along Geirangerfjord.

Our first view of the fjord:

Hello! 😊

Even Master Renault enjoyed the view......

It was an easy drive from Alesund to Geiranger, and we decided to stay in campground again so we could do laundry (there were no laundry machines in the last campground), although we were very ready to wild camp again! (Speaking of laundry - while showers were easy to find along the way, finding places to do laundry was more cumbersome.)

We debated taking a passenger-only fjord tour with a narrator, but decided on the car ferry with a pre-recorded tour so we could continue on our way. This was the first time that we needed to make a reservation for something ahead of time, and everything we read online said that spots fill quickly - days ahead of time. Maybe because of the rain, or maybe because we were at the start of the shoulder-season, we were able to make reservations the night before for the 11:40am ferry.

We used their microwave to heat our leftover Indian food from other night. Oh – so in Norway, the private campgrounds all have full kitchens and people use them – not just to reheat leftovers (like us), but making full-on meals: pastas, salads, cooking freshly caught fish from the fjord.....

We decided on general route for tomorrow’s travels - of course we say that every night and then change out mind!

Tonight’s entertainment – watching a cruise ship leave Geiranger.

By the way - if you ever see a cruise ship and are curious as to its route, go to: cruisemapper.com and enter the name - you will also get lots of information about the ship.

Today's route.....
