We slept great again – it was super quiet in woods by the lake. One of the best parts about wild camping was that each day as we drove/roamed/meandered, we would have no idea where we would sleep that night – it was fun each day to find a new spot with a new view.
Brad was finally starting to feel better - yay! As we did quite often, we looked to see where to go for the best weather - it still looked like rain/overcast for the next week, but slowly changing from 84% probability each day to less than 50% probability – so better odds for better weather!
We drove about 45 minutes and got some breakfast again – yep – the same thing - toast, runny eggs, bacon, and a side salad. We really liked it the day before, but for some reason, the same meal wasn’t doing it for us – too much bacon for Suzanne, for sure!
Side bar – we frequently saw sod roofs – some with trees and
plants – throughout our travels. They date back to the Viking Ages and have
practical benefits, such as insulation, noise reduction, waterproofing, and
ecological integration. Super cool!
We continued our traveling into Trondheim......
We had lunch and our first Norwegian pastry - skolebrod – yum! Skolebrod translates to “school bread,” – it was a traditional pastry given to school children decades ago. It is a yeast bread with vanilla custard in the middle and coconut on top.
We wandered around the wharf…..
… and Nidarosdomen - a church built around 1,000 CE.
We hit out first traffic getting out of Trondheim. The town
was nice enough if driving though and
want a break, but not a destination by any means.
We continued on towards Kristiansund…….
Drove onto the 6pm ferry a couple minutes before departure…..
Then drove about 45 minutes to Kristiansund.......
...... eventually finding this tiny spot near some homes and local walking paths. We had dinner in the van and enjoyed our nightly ritual of chatting about where to go and what to do.
Today's route......
