Although we set the
alarm set for 6am, we woke at 5:40am and on the road by 6am with hot tea and
coffee in hand! (The weather was cold….but dry!!) As we drove north, we kept saying, "We didn't see this before," even though we were on the same route just a week ago - it's because we didn't see it at all, given all the rain and cloud cover the last time we were here.
Lots of road construction yesterday and today. In fact, there
was a lot of road construction all over Norway – guess there are limited months
where they can do roadwork outdoors.
We drove a while, eventually having breakfast and getting gas. We stopped in the same place a bit
north of the Arctic Circle to do laundry and take showers – might as well – we knew
that everything worked well and the showers were hot with great pressure! We
then continued onward…..with a few things still to dry by the shining sun!
Blue sky and no rain!!
We arrived to the ferry late afternoon hoping to spend the
night in one of their lanes, but they did not
allow it, so we ended up at the train station, less than one kilometer from the
ferry terminal. Interestingly, while one has to pay to park from 8am – 4pm,
after 4pm it was free. It was after 4pm by this time, so we parked and walked
around Bodo a bit. It is surprisingly quiet here given that there are (a few) people
coming/going to the train station. (It’s a small station – only two tracks and
they were on the other side of the station. Oh – and this is the end of the
line, so they only stopped and turned around). Eventually another rig pulled in
as well and looked to be tent campers sleeping in their car….ahhh…those were
the days! 😆
Today's route.....
