Norway Day 6 ~ Heading to Alesund!

We again slept well and once again discussed where to go – it is just raining everywhere for the next 3 - 4 days. Unfortunately, Suzanne caught Brad’s cold. (Gee…. could it be because we are living in a tiny camper van?😏)

Starting in Kristiansund, we drove the Atlanterhavsveien Coastal Route to Bud. It is another one of Norway’s 18 Scenic Routes.

In Bud, we took a couple walks and had lunch. Before our trip, Suzanne tried to learn some Norwegian. So okay, it wasn’t great, and she had to ignore Brad when he mocked her at the breakfast table each morning, but it did make people smile at her attempts and she always knew what she was ordering off the menu. During lunch we chatted with a woman sitting at the next table and she shared that it never rains like this – it was quite lovely and sunny until the day we arrived. Sigh…..

We decided to head to Alesund (based on our conversation with our new friend), so ended up on another ferry - notice the rain on the windshield.....

.....and drove to an official “campground.”  While we would have loved to wild camp the entire time - just to say we did - there was no wild camping in the Alesund area.  (We would later realize that in a lot of towns, the wild camping opportunities are limited.)

We ended up with a great spot right on the water! Just as we were pulling in, a rig was pulling out, and whoosh – we were parked overlooking the Norwegian Sea! This is one of the camping spots we had to pay for –  using a parking app called EasyPark (similar to ParkMobile in the US). The camping spot had everything – electric hook-ups (the only time we had them the entire trip), water to fill our tank, toilet cassette disposal, gray water disposal, bathroom, and most importantly – free hot showers!!

View from inside our rig......

We had dinner in town - Indian food! It was still raining so it was back to rig for night. By the time we got back, the place was completely full.

Today's route.....
