Woke to our 7am alarm - slept great again. Suzanne loves the cooler air and a heavy comforter – neither of which are prevalent in southern Florida! 😅
We decided to head into Bergen today. We had heard lots of
good things about Bergen and a couple people
told us that it was one of their favorite visits in Norway. The guidebook we
used, Lonely Planet’s Norway, said that Bergen “ranks among Scandinavia’s most
beautiful cities,” and, “You could easily spend a week in Bergen….”
Along the way we filled our fresh drinking water and purchased
groceries. Oh, speaking of groceries – no matter the store - Rema 1000, Coop Prix,
Joker – they had the exact same food and brands.
We drove to Bergen, arriving around 12:30pm, and parked in a spot about a 20 minute walk to Bryggen – the historic wharf district. It was SUPER busy - lots of cruise ship people – it was actually overwhelming.
We walked around a bit and eventually walked to the fish market....
.....and shared fish and chip - very fresh cod.
We walked back through the shops and were back on the road by about 2:30pm. We spent about two hours there. Meh - not sure of all the fuss, quite honestly…..
Onward bound!
As we drove, we chatted about going north again since the
weather is better there now, however decided to first hike Preikestolen (Pulpit
Rock) – one of the iconic Norwegian hikes. We like to be on the trail early – less people
– and since one is not allowed to camp in the parking lot of Preikestolen, we
drove to a wild camping spot as close to the trailhead as possible (about 30
minutes away).
We ended up in a small commuter lot by a lake. There were already a couple campers when we got there - not the nicest views.....
