We were back to setting the alarm today, so it was up at 6am so we could hike to the summit of Tromeja - the point where Slovenia, Austria and Italy meet. Suzanne loves seeing where places meet - on our first road trip together - 30 years ago (yowza!!) - we went hours out of our way so she could see the Four Corners in the US and could be in four states at once - yay!
We drove to Ratece....
...parked, and walked through the town.....
....with the occasional amazing view behind us......
...which eventually led to a gravel road (not the most interesting terrain to hike)......
...again, with some views....
Then the steep switchbacks began, 31 if one believes the tree stump - they were counted down as we hiked - not sure if that was motivating or not.....
At 11:30am we arrived to the triple-boarder! Lots of monuments to mark the spot!
There were some great views too - mostly of Austria....
We left around 11:45am and hiked back, getting done at 1pm. For the last half of our hike out, we chatted with another lovely Slovenia couple - again, sharing facts and knowledge of the US and Slovenia. It is interesting how people here are so impressed that we are here from the US - we think Slovenia is a bit "yet to be discovered."
See the arrow? This is where we hiked.
