The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site
Since the drive to Nova Scotia
went smoothly, we didn’t need our “flex” day, so we ended up needing to find
something to do on Day 2 since the ferry to Newfoundland didn’t depart until
11:15pm. We ended up going to the Fortress of Louisbourg NHS since (1) we really enjoyed our time at Fort Edmonton Park and The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (both of which we visited in 2008) and…(2) it was free with our
newly purchased Canada Discovery Pass that we purchased the day prior at
Cape Breton Highlands NP. It really was quite interesting and we ended up
spending about five hours there learning about the lives of the people during
their time there (1713-1768).
On the way back, we stopped to see The Worlds Largest Fiddle ~ weighing-in at eight tons and standing at 17 meters tall.
(For perspective, Brad weighs-in at 150 pounds and two meters tall! 😄)
Then it was on our way to the Marine Atlantic Ferry terminal in North Sydney for our 11:15pm ride to Newfoundland!
