Well, it took 2,231 miles and four pretty long days of driving, but we made it to North Sydney, Nova Scotia to take the Marine Atlantic Ferry to Newfoundland. We didn’t do much else for the four days but sleep in unmemorable hotels, get gas, and stop and eat. The best restaurant along the way was The Traveler Restaurant in Union, Connecticut – where else can you get great food, friendly waitstaff, a nice patio, and….three free books per person to take with you when you leave! 😀
When we planned this trip, we deliberately planned a “flex day” in Nova Scotia (we’ve been here before) just in case we needed it if there was car trouble or something else held us up. We didn’t need it, so we did end up having a couple days in Nova Scotia where we stayed at Kow’s Inn in a super tiny room…….
Then it was onto Day 1 on Nova Scotia.....
Cape Breton Highlands National Park
It was about a 90 minute drive to the closest hiking, with some nice views along the way.
We took a short, 2 ½ mile hike called Middle Head that had some nice ocean views.
We then drove a bit more e in-and-out of the national park to see some of the local area.
On the way back, we ended up taking a wrong turn and took the shortest ferry route ever – the Englishtown Ferry – to get back on the right path to the hotel. This is quite different than the ferry that we will take to Newfoundland! 😊
The it was onto Day 2......
