We really enjoyed our first full day in Twillingate. After having a breakfast of pancakes at the B&B and chatting with fellow B&B’ers, we went to the Lighthouse Lowerhead Trail to walk around the high cliff and see what we could see.
We took loads of photos are we walked along the cliffs.......
Especially when we saw some humpback whales!
We then went to the other side of the lighthouse, where Brad may have gotten of trail.....
Eventually we did have good views of the coastline again......
And of the lighthouse......
It was around this time that we got caught in a heavy rain, and of course our rain gear was back at the B&B. 😄
After getting dry and having a quick lunch, we donned our rain gear and headed to Sandy Cove Trail for a bit......
Next thing we knew, Brad got caught in a lobster trap!
We then made our way to French Beach Trail
We were definitely hungry by this time and headed to Doyle W. Sansome & Sons for dinner. We kept running into the same couple the previous 24 hours - never got their names but saw them four times in various obscure places - and they mentioned this place to eat - so we went.
It is quite the understated restaurant
Here is where they keep the live lobster........
And here is where they cook 'em!
There was a long wait and while we waited, we chatted with two other couples. When a table for six came up, the other woman invited everyone to share their table, so here we are - Pete (across from Brad) and Christine (across from Suzanne) from Missouri and Olivier (next to Suzanne) and Simon (next to Christine) from Quebec City!
Dinner was great conversation and lots of food (we blame Pete for the dessert course 😉) We both ordered the lobster roll (yes, that's three overall and two in two days) and really liked it.
Lobster Rolls in order of Best to Meh:
1. Doyle Sansome & Son, Twillingate, NL
2. Chelsea's Fish & Chips, Lewisporte, NL
3. The Freight Shed Waterside Bistro, Baddeck, NS
Finally we called it a night and headed back to our B&B where we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
