When we decided to leave Palo Duro Canyon State Park a couple days early due to the cold & very windy weather, we decided that we’d move-up our stay in Austin by a day and boondock the night that would have been our third night at Palo Duro. It would have been a good idea to look at the calendar, since once we were on the road and called the private RV park in Austin to move-up our reservation, we then (and only then) looked at the calendar and realized we had “lost” a day somewhere and actually had an extra day on the road. Whoops!
Since we didn’t want to stay in Austin even longer, we decided to go to Lake Brownwood State Park, about halfway between Palo Duro Canyon State Park and Austin.
Again, as with Palo Duro Canyon State Park, everyone with which we spoke was very nice. The park is large – full hook-up sites, electric/water only sited, tent sites, and many cabins, small and large, to rent. We arrived on a beautiful, sunny day, but didn’t think of taking a picture of our site until the next day, then the clouds and cold arrived – bummer. We stayed at the electric/water only sites, which happen to have the best views and we overlooked the lake and enjoyed the occasional boater.
Easy and affordable - no matter where you are!
