We slept just okay - a bit warmer outside – yet amazing how it was quiet even as we slept in the middle of the town. (Yes, we realize that we talk about sleeping a lot in Norway – think it’s the first vacation where we slept so late most days – nothing wrong with that! 😊)
Our intention for going to Andalsnes was to take the gondola
up and hike Romsdalseggen, but rains were predicted to arrive around noon
and the gondola starts running at 11am. Had we known that, we wouldn't have
stayed in Andalsnes overnight (and paid), but we had already paid for parking for the night, so we stayed. Andalesnes isn't charming at all - not
like Alesund – in part because the town was bombed so much in World War II,
that it rebuilt in a more “modern” (for the time) style.
We took showers (at the Circle K)......
....and were on the road by
11am, heading to Lom to drive along The Sognefjellet – one of the 18 Norwegian Scenic
Roads – this one showcasing the highest peaks in Norway.
We enjoyed a very nice lunch along way and stopped in Lom for
a bit and walked around the Lom Stave Church - the largest stave church in Norway dating
back to 1158 – and still in use today.
We got back on the road and drove along the Sognefjellet - amazing views!
Sheep in the road again!!
We eventually stopped for the night rather early (5pm) as it was very foggy and we could barely see in front of us on the wet and windy roads.
We said that if the weather clears at some point while we are still in Norway, then we’d come back and see these views, as the peaks we were getting from behind the clouds looked amazing.
