Pioneer Cabin Trail, Ketchum, Idaho

We hiked the Pioneer Cabin Trail today, starting at 8:30am.  It is a 7.4 mile RT hike, starting at nearly 7,000 feet in elevation and gaining over 2,500 feet to a high of 9,460 feet. The hike starts in the forest, climbs through more than 23 switchbacks, goes through meadows and plateaus, and ends at Pioneer Cabin. Given that we live at 300 feet altitude, we were definitely feeling the much (MUCH!) higher altitude on our incline, and were actually surprised when we arrived at the cabin only two hours later.  We hung around a bit, enjoying the ambience of the cabin, had lunch, and headed back to the car, which took two hours, so a bit less time. All-in-all, a fun hike!
