~Saturday, August 20th ~
We spent two nights at Merced and heard a rumor that there was a 2-person tent at Merced as well, so we asked if we could relocate to that one - tada! Tent #1 ~ two beds once again! Breakfast was: fresh fruit, oatmeal with toppings, blueberry pancakes (Brad's favorite), veggie omelet, and potatoes.
Notice no wood burning stove - since Merced is at a lower elevation, no heat is needed.
Remember the story of Denise and her different outfits and matching lipstick each day? Hope ya like this shirt, 'cuz you've seen it before and you'll see it again!
We spent out layover day doing a few things - first which was a 6 mile RT (500 ft elevation gain/loss) to Washburn Lake.
We followed some water.....
Here's Brad!!
Through some damn tall trees
That dropped huge pine cones!
Washburn Lake!!
Labor once again! Brad's filtering the water so we have some for snacks and the hike back to Merced. (Not pictured - Suzanne did actually do a bit of labor and filtered some water as well. Really, she did. Really!)
Good thing Suzanne got a pedicure before the trip - who knew her feet would be photographed! The hike from Vogelsang to Merced (specifically those friggin' pointy-stone steps) provided Suzanne with one hell of a blister between her little pinkie toe and the next one over. Ouch! Just needed a bit of tending to on the hike back to Merced.
Better picture of those tall trees.
Oh, yeah, ya wonder why we took showers when we could - nope, that's not a tan on Brad's legs....that be dirt!!
We also did some laundry that day - there was a sink provided. Yup - that's Labor's job also! ;-)
We weren't the only ones doing laundry. (In fact, this is how the employees wash & dry their clothes too.)
There was another ranger program that night and it was around the fire. This is just a cool fire picture - Suzanne was bored. Dinner tonight was steak (huge cuts), another great salad, bread & butter, potatoes, roasted veggies again and a honey cinnamon cake for dessert. Again - YUM!!
