El Paseo is a beautiful palm lined boulevard of upscale shops and art galleries. From November to May on the first Thursday of each month, the art galleries stay open from 5:00pm to 9:00pm (all the other shops close at 5:00pm). There are 12-15 galleries total that make up the Artwalk on both sides of the five block boulevard. Most galleries offered wine, water and some yummy bake goods or snacks as a nice reception to the art walkers.
The art ranged from wonderful sculptures, paintings, wood pieces and anything else imaginable (and many items unimaginable). A few galleries hosted an in-gallery artist for a meet and greet as well as live painting demonstrations.
The evening weather was great which made admiring an interesting wide range of art a wonderful night out. It took us less than two hours to see all the galleries that were open. As a bonus to the night, the “people watching” was interesting too. You might see a few very high end cars parked on the street as well.
The El Paseo street can be found one block south of Highway 111 in Palm Desert.
